ADAM Hickey will add to his growing collection of England vests when he runs for his country in a top-class international in Spain this weekend.

The Southend AC athlete – who is targeting a place in the Great Britian squad for the European Cross-Country Championships for a third successive year – is no stranger to the IAAF Burgos meeting.

The 27-year-old has run there twice before and was one of the top Europeans to finish last year when he crossed the line in 22nd place.

Hickey is a bit behind schedule this winter having had a setback with a niggling injury.

He ran his first major cross-country race of the season in Milton Keynes on Saturday, which was the opening round of the British Cross-Challenge.

Hickey finished in fourth place in the senior men’s race, about 30 seconds down on winner Jonathan Davies (Reading AC).

Basildon AC’s Grant Webb was 43rd.

Gemma Kersey (Basildon AC) had a superb run in the senior women’s race where she finished in sixth place.

Canvey’s Jodie Judd was another to impress. She finished 13th in the under-20 women’s race despite still being an under-17 athlete.

She was the fifth under-17 athlete to finish.

In the under-20 men’s race, Mason Webb (another under-17 running an age group up) led a Basildon contingent home in 48th place.

George Elliott was 58th and Daniel Ashley 74th.
