Canvey Island 0-2 Met Police

FA Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round

TEN-MAN Canvey Island conceded two last-minute goals against Met Police to crash out of the FA Trophy.

Charlie Collins pounced to hammer home from close range following a goalmouth scramble on 90 minutes, after the Gulls had played the entirety of the second period with 10 men following Tambeson Eyong’s red card.

And a spot kick from the same man in the second minute of injury-time wrapped up a miserable afternoon for Danny Heale's side.

However, neither side set the game alight in the first 25 minutes, as both struggled to make an impact in wet conditions.

Indeed it wasn’t until almost half an hour that the first chance came, with Omarr Lawson striking wide.

But then Met Police came to life. Neil Barrett was denied by Conor Gough but Adrian Markus came the closest to a goal in the half.

After a strike was blocked on the line by Jake Pitty, Markus sent a fine drive across Gough only to see it crash off the post.

A flash point came on the stroke of half-time. Eyong went flying into a tackle with Mekhail McLaughlin but, although he won the ball, he was off the ground as the tackle came in and was shown his second red of the season.

Buoyed by the decision just before the break, Met Police were favourites to push on and take control of the tie.

But the half was much the same as the first 45 minutes, with the only real chance of the opening 20 minutes a drive from Adrian Markus which brought the best out of Gough.

Canvey saved their best for the final 15 minutes, and should have taken the lead after Harrison Chatting’s fierce cross was met by Stokes but his header was inches over the top under pressure.

Markus wasted another effort with the goal at his mercy only for Collins to score as injury-time approached.

There was still time for a second goal, as Conor Gough was adjudged to have committed a foul in the box, albeit to his consternation.

And Collins made no mistake from the penalty spot.
