Brightlingsea Regent 4-1 Great Wakering Rovers
From North Road
Ryman One North
NINE-MAN Great Wakering Rovers were comprehensively beaten by in-form Brightlingsea Regent.
The tone was set after just three minutes as captain Stuart Hepburn received his marching orders for an alleged stamp.
Despite Hepburn’s red card, it was actually the visitors that went into an early lead.
Dan Gilchrist, on loan from Canvey Island, got his first goal for the club with a composed finish from James Pugsley right-wing cross.
Although that lead only lasted two minutes as Russell Malton got the Regent leveller with a blistering strike that left goalkeeper Adam Seal, restored to the starting XI, with no chance.
And the game was turned on its head when Josh Gould buried a strike on 25 minutes to make it 2-1, as he headed home from Ricky Griggs’ cross.
Phil Kelly made it 3-1 as he headed home in style at the far post, with the score 3-1 at half-time.
Jake Clowsley got the fourth shortly after the hour mark with a driven effort that gave Seal no chance.
And Max Kent was shown red for a second yellow card in the final moments, to round off a miserable afternoon for Wakering.
Great Wakering Rovers: Seal, Pugsley, Kent, Barlow, Hepburn, Sands, Worrell (Vaughan), Gilchrist (Johnson), Gordon (Holder), Nash, Cleaver
