Great Wakering Rovers 3-2 Waltham Abbey

From Burroughs Park

Ryman One North

GREAT Wakering Rovers secured a much-needed three points as they came from a goal down to see off the challenge of Waltham Abbey.

Jay Nash, Jake Gordon and Dan Gilchrist ensured the points stayed at Burroughs Park, although Wakering did see Max Kent red-carded for the second consecutive match.

Although the league table made bleak reading for Waltham Abbey, they had been much improved in the last few weeks, and that run looked set to continue early on.

Christian Assombalonga netted to put the visitors in charge although that lead didn’t last long.

Nash levelled the scores just three minutes later as he scored from close range and that was how it stayed until half-time.

The goal of the game came five minutes after half-time, as Gordon netted his first strike since returning from Chelmsford, as he powered an unstoppable strike beyond the goalkeeper.

And when Gilchrist scored for the second match in succession, manager Gary Ansell could afford himself a smile as his team continued to create.

Wakering were given a late scare after Kent was dismissed for handling on the line, albeit after a number of deflections in the penalty area, with Assombalonga making no mistake from 12 yards.

But the home team held on for the points.
