BILLERICAY Town and Kingstonian cancelled each other out as they played out a goalless draw at New Lodge.

Both sides lacked cutting edge and the crucial final ball to break the deadlock, in a closely-fought battle between two side looking to make the play-offs.

The first chance of the afternoon fell to the home side just before the 20 minute mark.

A corner was initially cleared, but Teddy Nesbitt picked up the ball 25 yards out and floated a cross towards Conor Hubble at the back post. His bullet header produced a good save from keeper Rob Tolfrey, who tipped over the crossbar.

That was the best opening of an uneventful first-half, although the match opened up after the break.

The game became stretched and it was the home side that looked more likely to score. Quentin Monville had his one-on-one well smothered by the keeper, with his touch letting him down at the vital moment.

For the away side, Andre McCollin had a good chance from the angle as the clock ticked down but, after a good first touch, his effort was well blocked by Frankie Curley.

And Billericay boss Craig Edwards was pleased with the clean sheet, but felt his side lacked spark.

“In the first-half I don’t think our keeper has really had a save to make but we didn’t have enough about us,” he said. “It was a flat half.”

“We started the second-half much better but again it was the final ball that let us down.”
