Hayes and Yeading 2-2 Concord Rangers

From York Road

National League South

CONCORD Rangers needed a 95th minute equaliser from Ben Greenhalgh to secure a point against relegation-threatened Hayes & Yeading.

The Beach Boys had led through Joao Carlos, only for two goals in the final 10 minutes appear to hand Hayes a result they desperately needed.

But substitute Greenhalgh struck in the 95th minute, on his 24th birthday, to secure a share of the spoils.

The Beach Boys had been lifted by their midweek victory in the Essex Senior Cup, their third triumph in the competition in as many years, following a disappointing loss to Bath in their last league outing.

Hayes & Yeading had won the reverse fixture 3-0 but have had little to cheer during a largely miserable season, with the hosts sitting in the relegation places.

There was not a great deal in the match in the first-half, with Hayes showing their battling qualities.

Nothing separated the two at half time although a neat move after the break did bring the opening, and it was for the visitors.

Steve Cawley worked some space and fed Carlos who powered a shot through the goalkeeper and into the goal for his second goal in consecutive away league matches.

But it all kicked off in the final 15 minutes as Hayes levelled through Manny Monthe, with Elliot Benyon seemingly winning the match from the penalty spot as the clock ticked into the 90th minute.

But Greenhalgh had the last laugh as he found the net to the away fans’ delight, to leave Concord six point from the play-off places.
