Dereham Town v Great Wakering Rovers

The preview: Great Wakering Rovers are safe after back-to-back wins earlier this month ensured they will be playing Ryman One North football again next month.

Rovers can still reach their same points total as last term with six points still to play for, although they will need to be at their best to get past Dereham Town, another side with little to play for.

Wakering were beaten 3-1 by a strong Harlow Town side on Saturday, but head to Dereham with a squad boosted by survival as well as a desire to prove their worth, with manager Gary Ansell looking to start moulding his squad for next season.

Dereham sit ninth and come into the match fresher than their opponents, after their match against Aveley was postponed on Saturday.

However, Ansell will not accept excuses from his players, after revealing he was disappointed with aspects of the defeat to Harlow at the weekend.

What he said: Wakering chief Gary Ansell said: “We approached the game in a positive frame of mind after securing our league status and we went out there without any real ambition and to just play. But I expected more from the boys as we sat off and we needed to push on.

“We can achieve our points total from last year but we have achieved our primary goal of staying up. But this team is capable of so much more. Tilbury went on an incredible run in the middle of the season and there is no reason we can’t as we have similar strength squads in my opinion.

“We travel to Dereham missing a few players but we will give it a good go and it will be a chance for some of the under-21 boys and some fringe players to show what they can do.”
