Hendon 1-1 Billericay Town

BILLERICAY Town missed a penalty as they shared the points with Hendon in what was their final away match of the season.

Billericay had fallen out of contention in the play-off chase in recent weeks, while Hendon were desperately in need of points at the other end of the standings.

Town were looking for an early breakthrough against the strugglers but they proved to be resolute and the opener didn’t come until five minutes before half time.

A decision to come and claim a ball by former Billericay goalkeeper Joe Wright was punished by Tom Derry who got there first and headed into the net.

And Billericay should have doubled their advantage two minutes later when they won a penalty but the usually reliable Glenn Poole struck the base of the post and the ball was cleared.

And quick as a flash Hendon were level. Chris Seeby collected a clearance from Town stopper Jack Giddens and his long-range effort soared over Giddens’ head and into the net.

Into the second half, Jordan Cox rattled the away crossbar, while Giddens was needed to make an inspired save at the other end.

But it was to end all square.
