STAINES TOWN V CANVEY ISLAND/RYMAN PREMIER LEAGUE

The preview: Canvey ended their home campaign with a thrilling 3-3 draw, having been three goals down at half-time.

And they have the chance to make it back-to-back wins against a Staines Town side who have largely ailed this season, with 16th place the best they can now manage this term.

Canvey, albeit with little to play for, can leapfrog four teams and still secure a top 10 finish with three points and assuming other results go their way.

Canvey lost the reverse fixture 3-2 and come into the match against a buoyed Staines who picked up an impressive 1-0 win at Kingstonian this week.

What he said: Canvey boss Danny Heale said: “For 30 minutes against Burgess Hill it was the best we had played all season and we should have been in front easily and they somehow went in at half time 3-0 up.

“In the second half we got three goals and if we had had another five minutes we would have nicked it. For 82 minutes we were great and eight minutes was terrible but we need to make sure that good spell goes on for the whole match.

“We want to finish 10th and we hope we can do that. We lost 3-2 to Staines in the reverse match and we want to finish with a bang. The players are getting paid and they need to put on a show.

“Staines were expected to do well this year but it hasn’t worked out that way. Their games in hand caught up with them and they have struggled and we need to go and get the points.”
