CRAIG Gillam has resigned as manager of Basildon United just more than a week after leading the club to cup glory.

The Bees manager and assistant manager Lee Connor met with chairman Dave Maxwell yesterday afternoon and, following talks, both have now left the club.

It is believed the reason behind the decision was to do with the club's plans for next season.

Gillam had led the club to its most successful ever season as they finished second in the Essex Senior League, behind rivals Bowers & Pitsea, and won the Essex Senior League Challenge Cup.

He also briefly resigned in April after a falling out with the hierarchy, before later deciding to stay on.
