CONCORD Rangers manager Adam Flanagan admitted finances played a part in Max Cornhill’s return to rivals Chelmsford City.

The midfielder, who played 44 times for the Beach Boys last term, re-joined the Clarets at the end of last week having spent two years with the club between 2011 and 2013.

Cornhill helped Concord lift the Essex Senior Cup and secure a top 10 finish in the National League South last term but will now be plying his trade against their Essex rivals.

And Flanagan wished him well, as he continues to finalise his squad ahead of the new season.

“Max wanted to come back but we couldn’t get to an agreement on the finances front unfortunately,” he said.

“He is a terrific lad and I wish him the best for the upcoming season, even though he has gone to Chelmsford!

“We will see how pre-season goes on the playing front but I am happy with the players that have been retained. I am working hard with a few more signings which may or may not come off in the next few weeks and we also have some interesting players coming over pre-season who I am looking forward to see.”

The club were also honoured by the National League in their end of season awards, named the Respect Campaign Club of the Year.

The Beach Boys won the award, which recognises fair play, community work and supporters’ behaviour among other things, at a ceremony over the weekend.

And Flanagan said he was pleased the club had been recognised for their hard work.

“I think the club being recognised at National League level and winning an award is another string to the bow and continues the success we have had up to now.”
