JUNIOR GIRLS

Southend finished third in the Essex Schools junior girls competition with Castle Point & Rochford fifth.

Kiera Bainsfair produced a stunning display in the 75metre hurdles as she won gold in a personal best time of 11.13 seconds which also broke a Basildon club record which had stood for 36 years.

Kiera, who normally competes in multi events, ran for Mid Essex and is now awaiting confirmation of it being the fastest time in the country for her age group so far this season.

Castle Point & Rochford’s Mia Chantree also won gold with an impressive 1.63metres in the high jump, while Southend’s Eleanor Butt was also in fine form in the javelin, winning gold with a throw of exactly 37 metres to finish eight metres clear of her nearest rival.

Other local medalists included Southend’s Abena Oteng, who came second in the 200m in 25.52 seconds, while Enya Davis-Collins took bronze in the 100m with 13.03 seconds.

Holly Lawrence won silver in the high-jump with 1.53 metres and Z Lever was third in the long jump with 4.91 metres.

Castle Point & Rochford’s Abbey Jackson was second in the javelin with 28.97 metres, while A Gordon was third in the discus after throwing 25.66 metres.

INTER GIRLS

Southend finished second in the overall competition behind winners Mid Essex, who finished 39 points clear.

Castle Point & Rochford took third but there were a number of impressive displays from local athletes.

Basildon’s Connie Forman won the 300m hurdles in a time of 45.63 seconds, while Southend’s Emmi Goldenburg triumphed in the long jump with 5.04 metres.

Gabby Quigley, of Castle Point & Rochford, was also in fantastic form in the discus, throwing 34.25metres to finish nine metres clear of her nearest rival.

Other local medalists included Southend’s K Nwaelene, who took silver in the 200m with 25.71 seconds, and Amy Fix, who won bronze in the 300m in 42.98 seconds.

In the field, Southend’s H Badgel finished third in the high jump with 1.51 metres, O Dickinson took silver in the triple jump with 10.50 metres, Brogan Ravenall came second in the long jump after leaping 4.95 metres and Iona Doyle was third in the discus with 24.91 metres.

Laura Runciman also took silver in the hammer, throwing 50.01m.

JUNIOR BOYS

SOUTHEND were the overall winners of the age group with 86 points after producing a number of fine performances.

M Akhigbe won the long jump with 6.16m and S Asheaf the pole vault with 3m.

Basildon’s L Wheeler won the 1500m with 4.23.25, while Oliver Lill, also of Basildon, won the 800m in 2.02.07.

Castle Point and Rochford’s Seb Dickins was a clear winner in the shot 13.78m, while Jess Walker was second in the javelin with 49.88m and A Ledger took second in the hammer with 42.07m.

Southend’s Tom Milton was third in the hammer with 41.60m, J Roser was second in the pole vault with 2.85m, S Mokoulu won silver in the triple jump with 12.21m, T Mustafa was third in the long jump with 6.02m and S Mellor won bronze in the javelin with 42.71m.

On the track, Southend’s Dan Riley was second in the 1500m with 4.25.84mins and Basildon’s T Alaran was second in the 200m with 24.14 seconds.

INTER BOYS

CASTLE Point and Rochford won the overall competition after racking up an impressive 101 points.

Southend took second with 76 points and there were a number of individual medalists in the age group too.

Southend’s L Jeffrey won the high jump with 1.77 metres and L Barratt won the discus after throwing 40.32 metres.

Castle Point’s Robert Runciman won the long jump with 6.33 metres Victor Adebiyi the shot with 13.92 metres and J Hall the pole vault after clearing 3.60m.

Southend’s Jola Omotosho won the hammer in convincing fashion with 49.49m but the medals did not stop there.

CPR’s T Turner was second in the high jump with 1.77m, R Bennett took silver in the triple jump with 13.37m, Bradley Hart was second in the long jump with 6.20m and M Wastell came second in the pole vault with 3m.

On the track, Southend’s Gus Withers was second in the 3,000m in 9.32.13, Sam Bennett was second in the 100m hurdles with 13.57 seconds and T Camm took third in the 400m with 65.9 seconds.

Castle Point’s Craig Wheeler was second in the 1500m steeplechase in 5.18.55, Louis Hay won bronze in the 100m hurdles in 14.37 seconds and M Barnes was third in the pole vault with 2.70m.
