FORMER Concord Rangers youth-team product Billy Knott struck an injury-time penalty for Gillingham to down his old employers.
Knott, who is from Canvey, joined the Gills last month and stroked his 90th minute penalty beyond the dive of goalkeeper Ben McNamara to give the League One side a 2-1 win on Tuesday night.
Concord had taken the lead in the encounter when defender Steve King headed home a Sam Collins corner after 16 minutes, with some valiant defending keeping Gillingham out ahead of the half-time whistle.
Gillingham made nine changes at the break, one of which was Knott, although Luke Norris drew the visitors’ level on the hour mark.
Changes came and went for both teams but it was Knott who had the last laugh, scoring after John Easterford was adjudged to have committed a foul in the penalty area.
On the other side of the island, Canvey were also beaten 2-1, going down to a Leyton Orient XI.
Like Concord, Canvey had also led at half-time with Omarr Lawson’s header proving the difference.
But two goals in five second-half minutes proved enough for the League Two team.
Bowers & Pitsea were comfortable 4-1 winners against Olympian Premier Division side Harold Wood Athletic.
Three new signings got on the scoresheet for Bowers, with James Thomas, Brad Warner and Ben Sartain all scoring, along with captain Scott Pethers.
