CONCORD Rangers earned their first win of the season as two early goals helped them see off the challenge of Weston-Super-Mare.

The Beach Boys were still looking for their first victory after nine matches, and were in desperate need of a pick-me-up after recent disappointments.

And it was two early strikes that did the damage in the end, with Joao Carlos and a first of the season from Steve Cawley in the first 10 minutes enough, as Ben McNamara saved a second-half penalty.

Carlos slotted the opener after just four minutes as he scored following an error from the visiting defence, and it could have been even better soon after when Dumebi Dumaka threatened.

But Cawley did get a second soon after as he found the corner with a neat finish.

A delay ensued following a clash between Concord goalkeeper McNamara and Shawn McCoulsky, with the Beach Boys stopper sustaining several deep cuts to his face, although it was only a yellow that was shown to the latter.

Dayle Grubb shot off target for the hosts, although it wasn’t until after the break that they got back into the game.

Outstanding play from George Dowling saw the ball drop to McCoulsky and he tapped home from close range.

The same man had a golden chance to level after a penalty was awarded following a foul of Laucys Audrious, but McNamara made a simple save following a poor kick.

And Concord held out to earn three points and lift them from the bottom of the standings.
