ADAM Flanagan is hoping Concord Rangers can turn on the style under the floodlights as in-form Wealdstone make the trip to the Aspect Arena tonight.

The Beach Boys won their first match of the season against Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday, claiming a 2-1 victory to lift them from the foot of the National League South.

And Flanagan is now looking for three points on Concord’s own patch in a bid to lift them from the relegation places come 10pm tonight.

However, Flanagan says they face a tough ask against Wealdstone, who sit 7th and have lost just two matches so far this term, including Saturday’s 4-1 reverse at Ebbsfleet United.

“A home win is the next hurdle for us to climb,” said Flanagan. “Tonight will be a challenge as Wealdstone have started the season so superbly but, for some reason, we always perform better at home in evening matches and we need another determined performance.

“They have added real quality to the squad this year and I don’t just see a strong 11 anymore I see them having a strong 16.

“I would go as far as saying that it is probably the best Wealdstone squad I have seen (manager) Gordon (Bartlett) put together so we will have challenges in every department tonight.”

The win on Saturday came courtesy of two goals in the first 10 minutes, with Joao Carlos and Steve Cawley on target.

Although it could have been very different had goalkeeper Ben McNamara not made a penalty save having been involved in a first-half collision which left him battered and bruised.

And Flanagan said the penalty save was a great moment.

“We were obviously desperate for a win and had the penalty been scored then who knows what the final result would have been so it was a key moment in the game,” said Flanagan.

“I look at the teams we have played and, apart from the Welling match, we have been in contention and could have had something from every game.

“That tells me we are not too far away and my hope is that with a few more wins under our belts we will settle as a squad, come together more and really start to kick on.”

To win the match, Concord must first score a goal in front of their fans, something they have failed to do in all five home matches to date this season.

All five of their goals have come on the road this season, although Flanagan will take heart from their last home performance, in which they drew 0-0 with Bishop's Stortford.

The match at the Aspect Arena begins at 7:45pm tonight.
