THORPE Hall played host to four local clubs when the Kindred Shield was staged and they emerged with home success.

Thorpe, along with Belfairs, Rochford, Boyce Hill and Southend selected teams for a greensome foursomes competition.

A windy Thorpe proved very difficult for the visitors having to play 36 holes in the same format.

The triumphant Thorpe Hall team consisted of Alan Grace and Ronnie Neale; Mac and Malcolm Price; Dave Peters and Miles Read and Les Moth and David Snowdon.

They proved a formidable group, who played the conditions excellently.

Leading after the morning round, Thorpe kept the pressure on in the afternoon with father and son team of Mac and Malcolm Price posting 42 points.

Thorpe’s men (212 points) were delighted to win for the first time for some years, with Boyce Hill (198) beating Rochford on countrback for second place Micky Lukins (39 points) took the Harries Veterans Cup.
