DESPITE picking up a battling point in Wales, Thurrock look near certainties to finish in a third from bottom relegation spot.

But whether they will go down remains clouded in mystery as unsubstantiated rumours continue that they might be saved by Team Bath’s resignation.

With just two games to go Fleet are five points behind a Dorchester side immediately above them.

Dorchester, who drew 0-0 at already relegated Bognor Regis on Saturday, finish next weekend with a home match against Bromley.

Thurrock host Braintree tomorrow and Bath City next Saturday.

In Wales, in an undistinguished affair, Thurrock went close after 14 minutes when Tchokounte Malik forced home keeper Glyn Thompson into a smart save.

But the scoring was all packed into the closing stages. Fleet have been something of a bogey side to Newport and that looked like continuing when, after striking the post moments earlier with a great free-kick, Lee Flynn fired them into an 81st-minute lead.

But prolific on-loan striker Craig Reid grabbed the Newport equaliser within minutes after a Nathan Davies effort had been blocked.
