BACK in the FA Cup for the first time in many years, Essex Senior League side Basildon United are guaranteed a trip to Wembley.

But the new towners will not, unless they finally overcome 700 other clubs, be making a visit to the home of English soccer in the final next May.

Instead, they will be going to Wembley FC, the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League minnows, for an extra qualifying round tie on August 15.

Wembley play at a 2,000 capacity ground at Vale Farm on the Watford Road in Wembley — a far cry from the 90,000 plus sparkling new stadium just down the road.

With a total of 762 clubs chasing the big prize, draws for the early rounds of this season’s FA Cup are as follows: FA CUP l Extra preliminary (August 15): St Margaretsbury v Hullbridge; Wembley v Basildon United; Hatfield Town v Southend Manor; Barkingside v Bowers and Pitsea.
