Manor grab point on a disappointing day

IT was a generally disappointing day for the local clubs with only Southend Manor, who earned a point at Stansted, avoiding defeat.

Basildon United’s bid to push for honours came unstuck when they dropped a place to third with a 2-1 home defeat by Witham Town.

Leading marksman Wes Bocking gave the new town hosts the lead, but they lost 2-1 when Danny Greaves’s visitors replied through John Watson and Tom Robinson.

Struggling Bowers and Pitsea suffered from a Sean Thomas hat-trick as visitors Barkingside beat them 3-1, Craig Gillam scoring the home goal.

Junior Odofia was on target for Sawbridgeworth in their 2-0 home success over Hullbridge Sports.

Southend Manor shared the spoils 2-2 at Stansted with Ross Webster and Danny Stanley on target.

Other results: Barking 1, Eton Manor 1; Burnham Ramblers 6, Takeley 0; Clapton 0, Tiptree United 1; London APSA 1, Enfield 1893 1; Mauritius Sports 0, Bethnal Green United 6.

>Hullbridge Sports have been rewarded for Thursday night’s 2-0 win at fellow Essex Senior League side London APSA — courtesy of a Gary Paterson brace — with a fourth round home tie against Blue Square South club Braintree.

Hullbridge manager Enrico Tiritera was special guest at Friday’s draw, which was broadcast live on BBC Essex, and drew out the home clubs.

Bowers and Pitsea, who knocked out Southend United in the third round, travel to Waltham Abbey.

Full draw: Aveley v Burnham Ramblers or Billericay Town; Concord Rangers v Maldon Town; East Thurrock or Thurrock v Waltham Forest or AFC Hornchurch; Chelmsford v Grays; Hullbridge v Braintree; Waltham Abbey v Bowers and Pitsea, Halstead or Harlow v Dagenham and Redbridge; Redbridge v Colchester.

Matches are due to be played on or before December 5.
