SUB-zero temperatures returned with avengance to wreak havoc with games.
Grays Athletic's relegation battle in Blue Square Premier at the only club below them, Chester City, was a victim of a frostbound pitch.
And the Ship Lane Blue Square South clash, in which Thurrock were bidding to continue their play-off bid with victory over Maidenhead United, was also postponed.
In the Ryman Premier, Canvey Island fought back from being a goal down and having central defender Chris Moore sent off to grab a point in a 1-1 draw with fellow play-off chasers Wealdstone.
But third from bottom Billericay Town saw their hopes of beating the drop hit when they lost 3-2 at Ashford Town (Mx).
And Aveley went down by a similar 3-2 reversal - their third league defeat in a week - and now stand 15th and are slipping closer to the drop zone.
In Ryman One North, revitalised Great Wakering Rovers continued their improved form in which they've taken seven points from three matches in a week, when they edged out Essex rivals Brentwood 4-3 at Burroughs Park.
Village side Wakering are now back in the top five, being a point clear of sixth-placed Concord Rangers. But Canvey based Concord have five games in hand on them.
East Thurrock United are still third despite suffering a new blow when they were held 2-2 at home by VCD Athletic.
And Tilbury's hopes of joining the play-off race are almost certainly over following their 1-0 defeat at second-placed Thamesmead Town.
