Billericay Town at last climbed out of the Ryman Premier relegation zone with their best result of the season tonight.
In front of a 500 plus crowd at New Lodge, Brian Statham's Billericay beat runaway leaders Dartford, who suffered only their second defeat of the season in 22 games.
For the hosts this was only their sixth win in the same amount of matches and came about when recalled midfielder Micky Shinn fired home from outside the box just after the interval Canvey Island's scheduled visit to Wembley to take on Hendon was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
In Blue Square South, Thurrock suffered a blow to their play-off hopes when they lost 1-0 at Dorchester Town.
But near neighbours East Thurrock United boosted their Ryman One North promotion bid when they beat Northwood 3-2 at Rookery Hill.
On Monday night Aveley joined Canvey in the quarter-finals of the Isthmian League Cup, sponsored by Championship Manager, when they beat fellow Premier side AFC Hornchurch 3-1 at home with goals from Martin Tuohy, his 16th of the season, Nicky Symons and Ryan Edgar.
