CONCORD Rangers showed no mercy to crisis-club Croydon as they romped to a first-ever Ryman Premier win.

Goals from Bertie Brayley, James Lawson and Tony Stokes gave the Beach Boys a comfortable victory over a Rams side caught up in the betting scandal surrounding the Pakistan cricket team.

Concord joint boss Danny Scopes said he was delighted with how his players focused purely on the game to record a much-needed win.

He said: “We played really well. If we play like that for the rest of the season we will pick up plenty of points.

“They put out a good side, and all of their players had played at a higher level. So for us to come here and get three goals is very good. And we could have had a couple more.”

It looked like it might be a difficult afternoon for Rangers when skipper Nicky Cowley was forced off after ten minutes after picking up an injury. But they went ahead on 30 minutes when Brayley crashed home a brilliant long-range effort off the the underside of the bar.

And shortly after the break James Lawson double their advantage when he pick-pocketed Rams’ left-back Nathan Green and drilled the ball into the bottom corner.

The hosts pulled one back through Taylor Sinfield’s own goal, but Tony Stokes sealed the win by adding his side’s third with a lobbed finish.

And there were ugly scenes late-on when Ben Godfrey’s foul on James Elmes sparked a brawl between both teams.

But it did little to dampen Rangers’ spirits as they celebrated their first league win since their play-off win in May.
