Billericay boss Craig Edwards felt his side were unlucky to come away with nothing from table-toppers Sutton United on Saturday.

Former Town player Bradley Woods-Garness scored the only goal of the game after ten minutes.

Wil Vilner could only parry Richard Jolly’s shot and Woods-Garness swooped to tuck in the rebound.

Billericay responded well and twice went close to an equaliser through Danny Charge, who had a header tipped over before seeing his clever chip hit the bar.

Billericay sub Junior Luke wasted a golden opportunity late in the game when he headed wide of an empty net, before Sutton almost doubled their advantage through an own goal as Ian Cousins’ misjudged back-pass drifted just wide.

Edwards said: “I felt the least we deserved was a point.

“It was a very even game and I thought we cancelled each other out a bit. It was two very strong sides, and they’ve done what good sides do and nicked a result they probably didn’t deserve.

“We hit the bar in the first half and had two very good penalty shouts in the last 15 minutes.

“But that seems to be the way it is going for us with the officials so far this year. Hopefully it will even itself out a bit for the rest of the season.”
