EAST Thurrock United went top of Ryman Division One North with a convincing 3-1 win at high-flying Brentwood Town.

John Coventry’s free-scoring side went three up with goals from Kris Newby, Neil Richmond and Kye Ruel, before Brentwood notched a consolation through Ellis Remy.

Coventry said: “They are a good side, but we took an early lead and went in 1-0 at half time. Then we got an early one again after the break and then had one disallowed before we got the third.

“But we defended really well and that was pleasing for me because we have been good going forward for the past three years, we’ve produced the golden boot for the Ryman League for two years. So if we can keep up good all-round performances like that we won’t be far away from where we want to be.”

But it was not such good news for GREAT WAKERING ROVERS as they crashed to a 4-0 home defeat to AFC Sudbury to leave Ryan Wilkinson’s side still looking for their first league win of the season.

And TILBURY’S miserable run continued as they went down 1-0 at home to a Ware side who started the game second-bottom.
