BLASE Walton regained the men’s singles title at Westcliff Lawn after a dramatic comeback in the final.

Walton was a set and 0-4 down in the second when he recovered to win nine consecutive games to set up a 6-7 6-4 6-2 win over Nick Spillett and reclaim the single’s crown he last won two years ago.

Christie Hale won her first club title at the London Road tennis club by triumphing 6-2 6-0 over Nalandi Sharma-Ebdon in the ladies’ singles final.

Walton and Hale then teamed up to win their second trophy of the day, beating Iain MacDonald and Gill Sanderson 6-2 6-4 in the mixed doubles.

But MacDonald and Sanderson recovered to win other titles during the day.

MacDonald teamed up with Westcliff Lawn club captain Steve Wynn to retain their men’s doubles title in a match lasting two and a half hours. They beat Dave Lambe and Nick Spillett 7-6 6-7 6-3.

Sanderson partnered Marg Rimmer as they retained their ladies’ doubles crown with a 6-0 6-2 victory over Sarah O’Sullivan and Nalandi Sharma-Ebdon.

Steve Wynn won a second trophy when he played with Bryan Rivers as they won the men’s vets cup.
