BLUES boss Paul Sturrock is set to spread his search for new players across Europe after restructuring the club’s scouting set-up.

The Scotsman is still keen to strengthen his new look squad at Roots Hall.

And his scouts will therefore now be taking in matches across the continent.

"When you are an hour and a half from the tunnel it opens a small part of Europe up - Holland, Belgium and France - it is easy access," said Sturrock.

"There are plenty of flights from Stansted to Ireland and Scandinavia also "The leagues in those countries are now coming to an end so it gives us an opportunity to make a dossier.

"We go by what agents say to us on availability and people who are interested in coming to this country and we will keep doing that but now we are very much set on going out and finding the players that we need.

"We are doing a lot scouting now and I have worked out all the areas of Europe we are going be looking in.

"We have worked out where we are going to be going match wise every week to keep our finger on the pulse.

"Come the transfer window in January we might need some players."

With the transfer window now shut for permanent signings, Blues are restricted to 93 day emergency loan signings at the moment.

And, although he is not a big fan of temporary signings, Sturrock could be tempted back in to the market before January, when the window re-opens.

"It is only the loan basis that is available to us now and I am not a great believer in that but if somebody was available that was going to be our player at the end of a loan then I would be interested,” he added.
