BLUES’ goalscorer Anthony Grant felt lapses in concentration were to blame for yesterday's 2-1 defeat at Northampton Town.

Grant seemed to have set Southend United on their way to another good result when he fired them in to the lead at the start of the second half.

But his side were unable to hang on.

“We should’ve seen out the game and it’s disappointing we haven’t,” said Grant.

“Being 1-0 up we should have won but we had some little lapses in concentration which we need to cut out.

“The manager has told us he will talk to us about the game at training today and tomorrow so we will see what he says and then try to kick on to make sure we bounce back against Morecambe at the weekend.”

Grant also heads in to that game having continued his amazing goalscoring streak which has seen him net in his last three league games having previously not scored in 79 outings.

“I can’t believe I got another goal and if they keep on coming I’ll be happy,” said Grant.

“It was a great cross, so I watched it, readjusted and just kneed it in.

But Grant will continue playing despite having joked after scoring against Torquay last Saturday that he may opt to retire if he again hit the back of the net.

“The chairman has said I have to continue,” smiled Grant.

“He won’t let me retire!”
