Billericay Town’s under-eights proved they are top kids by smashing a team from North London who have hit the national headlines.

Ickenham FC have been featured in national newspapers, on Sky Sports, and on talkSPORT radio after they remained unbeaten for three years and scored more than 800 goals in the process.

But that run came to a definitive end on Sunday when they faced the boys from Billericay – and lost 6-0!

“They didn’t even get a shot at our goal,” said Billericay manager Steve Crocker.

“Ickenham have done really well, and after the last World Cup, the Sun did a bit on them saying that the future of our national game looked bright.

“And last month they were in the Daily Mail with all their trophies after winning 18 our of 18 tournaments over the summer.

“But our boys are just something else.

“We have not lost a game since the team was formed either, and we don’t think there is anyone out there who can beat us.”

Boys from both clubs know each other because they all train together at a number of professional clubs, and that is that is how the match came about.

Eight of the Billericay team, who are all seven years old and from south Essex or East London, have been told they will be offered youth contracts at the pro clubs when they finish playing for Town.

Ben Crocker and Charlie Sayers currently train with Southend United.

Jaden Crowhurst, Alfie Horan, Ryan Lowe and Max Delfer are with Arsenal. Max Hudson is at Chelsea, and Tom Merritt – whose brother Sam is the Billericay keeper – trains with West Ham, along with Max Yelland.

Crocker, who manages the team along with Mick Lowe, added: “This will be our last year together because they will all be taken on by the professional clubs’ academies now.

“And that’s a shame, but we can’t stand in their way. And they all have the potential to go very far in the game, so hopefully they’ll be hitting the headlines in the years to come.”
