THERE were a good few 20-plus fish hauls from Crowsheath’s eight-acre site this week.

Lake regular Lewis Randall, 27, from Wickford, proved that putting all of your eggs into one basket and being stubborn is not always the best plan of action.

He started off with a 12-hour session and a couple of nice mid teen catches.

But as his ticket was coming to an end he was hungry for something bigger, so he asked the lake’s bailiff for a lift over to the catfish canal for the next 12 hours.

He watched a 27lb catfish being banked on the swim next door, but was not fortunate enough to grab a monster of his own.

So, with his tail firmly tucked between his legs, he decided to try the main lake again, but this time on the back 4.5 acres, and in increasingly windy conditions.

He was fishing mid-water and had almost given up hope when his spod broke and couldn’t get anymore bait out to his spot.

So he changed tactics again and stuck on a faithful halibut pellet topped with some fake pop up corn and chucked it back to his spot.

He ended up with the biggest grin ever as he banked a stunning 25lb mirror within minutes of putting the rods back out.

He then swapped all rods to the same bait configuration and as soon as the hook hit the water he had a 5lb common.

And within 20 minutes of his first 20-pounder he had another screaming mirror coming in at 21.7lb.
