Canvey were left rueing missed chances as they had to settle for a Ryman Premier point at home to Bognor Regis.

The Gulls, who have not won in seven league games, manufactured many opportunities during the 1-1 draw, but could not capitalise on them.

Bognor started better in the entertaining match, and after 16 minutes they took the lead. A free kick sent into the box by Kane Wills from the right flank was not cleared, and the ball falling to ex-Hearts defender James Crane, who smashed it past Ashley Jones.

But six minutes later Steve Tilson’s men equalised through a great Bradley Woods-Garness strike.

Harrison Chatting and Ashley Miller worked a short corner between them before latter crossed the ball in.

From the edge of the box, Woods-Garness thumped a volley sweetly on the turn, leaving Bognor goalkeeper Craig Stoner no chance of stopping it.

Canvey began to open Bognor up they had three good chances in the space of three minutes.

First Chatting was put through beautifully by James Hawes, but he sliced wide, and then new loan signing Louis Dennis hit a one-on-one straight at Stoner.

And six minutes before the break, Woods-Garness hit a firm shot on target, but Stoner pulled off a great save with his legs.

Canvey bossed the second half and will look at a chance missed by Dennis as the moment where they should have won.

Woods-Garness ran down the right wing in the 81st minute before cutting the ball back from the by-line.

Dagenham & Redbridge loanee Dennis found himself with the ball just a few yards out from an open goal, but somehow managed to send his shot over.

Tilson said he was pleased with the performance, but admitted they must solve their goal scoring issues.

He said: “I am disappointed not to get the win, but I felt on another day we could have got all three points.

“We haven’t been clinical enough and it is just down to all the players to be more clinical in front of goal.”
