MIDDLE-DISTANCE stars James Shane and Jessica Judd have both been included in UK Athletics’ funding lists for the year ahead.
Shane, 22, has had a season to forget after injuries to both his calves meant his dream of running at the London Olympics never materialised.
But UK Athletics bosses have kept faith with Basildon’s 1,500m specialist, who made the World Championships in 2011, and have retained him on their podium potential programme.
This funds athletes who it is believed have a genuine chance of medalling at the 2020 Olympics.
Canvey’s Judd, 17, is also on the same funding programme after a season that has seen her win a silver medal over the 800m at the World Junior Championships and finish fifth in the 1,500m final at the same event.
Southend’s Robin Womack, who won a bronze medal at this summer’s Paralympics, has been placed on the highest level of funding, the World Class Performance Programme, which is for athletes who the sport considers have a genuine chance of medalling at the next Olympics or Paralympics in 2016.
